Extra Table is the non-profit partnership launched by well-known restauranteur Robert St. John, in 2009, making a difference in the lives of Mississippians by fundraising in order to stock food pantries and soup kitchens across the state with wholesome nutritious food.
In Mississippi, there are currently over 665,000 citizens (217,000 of whom are children) who do not have access to the nutritious food they need. Most of these food insecure individuals heavily depend on food pantries and soup kitchens to bridge the gap between meals. Food Pantries and soup kitchens rely heavily on volunteers’ food drives to stock their shelves, but are often flooded with foods that are unhealthy, out of date, and unusable. Even more unfortunately, and all too often, these feeding agencies run out of food before everyone can be fed.
Extra Table offers new, free, healthy food to pantries and soup kitchens in an effort to fight hunger while also combating the issue of obesity within our state. In the face of a global pandemic and because of gernerous donors like you, Extra Table has grown to serve over 50 food pantries and soup kitchens.
